Shelly Temple has been working with horses for over 38 years. She started foxhunting as a teenager as a member of West Chester (PA) Hunt Club. She showed hunters, attended Averett College in Danville, Virginia, and got interested in Combined Training, which led to an interest in Dressage. Shelly obtained her Horsemasters Certificate from Potomac Horse Center and became a certified riding instructor.

Shelly competed successfully in Dressage through FEI level. Along the way she served as the President of the Delaware Valley Combined Training Assocation and was the Show Manager of Dressage at Devon for four years. She also co-organized a USCTA recognized Horse Trial.

In 1996, Shelly went to a Combined Driving Event and fell in love with the sport. She served as a board member and was Vice President of the Brandywine Valley Driving Club until her move to Virginia. Shelly has competed with success at CDEs up and down the East Coast, with wins at Live Oak, Yellowframe, Georgia International, Spring and Fall Gladstone, Myopia, the Laurels, Katydid, Garden State, Cedar Lane and Pine Tree. Dressage is a strong point and Shelly feels this is the base for all phases of the sport.

Shelly has been on the USET Long List with three different horses, and is an ADS recorded Judge in Combined Driving and Driven Dressage. She was a member of the Bronze Medal winning team at the World Pony Driving Championships in Denmark in 2007, was second in dressage at the Championships and finished tenth overall.

Shelly is a 'R' ADS licensed judge in Combined Driving and Driven Dressage as well as a USEF 'R' licensed judge in Combined Driving.
Shelly groomed for top Pairs Driver Lisa Singer at three World Pairs Driving Championships. Shelly serves on the ADS Licensed Officials Committee, ADS Dressage Committee, and the USEF Driving Technical Committee.

Shelly's right hand man, Fran Doto, serves as Navigator, Chief Carriage Cleaner and Videographer. She couldn't compete without him. Daughter Kana, helps out whenever possible and is a great Navigator in her own right. Shelly believes that Combined Driving is a great sport that can be enjoyed by drivers at all levels.
